Seven Feasts

April 28, 2022 Erin Davis

“These are the appointed feasts of the Lord that you shall proclaim as holy convocations.” —Leviticus 23:1–2 ESV

In Leviticus 23, God gave the Israelites seven feasts to observe each year. Though these celebrations were spiritual, they were also practical. God was giving His people rhythms to remind them of His character. In some ways He was also shaping their relationship with food by teaching them patterns of fasting and feasting.

The seven feasts don’t anchor our rhythms today the same way they did for the Israelites, but they still matter because they teach us about God’s character. He desires to permeate every area of our lives. As the One who designed us, He alone knows the keys to our thriving.

Yes, we must feed our spirit through prayer, worship, and soaking in His Word. But when God taught the Israelites how to live, He taught them how to feast. Leviticus 23 is just one of many spots in Scripture that highlights that God cares about the rhythms of our lives, including food. As you go about your day, ask Him to show you what it means to truly feast.

Make it Personal

Invite the Lord into your food rhythms and ask Him to teach you to have a relationship with food that leads to thriving.
