Setting My Sights on Christ

For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ. —Colossians 3:3

Several years ago, I moved to the United States. During the first year, I experienced deep sadness as I missed my family, my friends, and my country. The Lord used these circumstances to teach me what it means to live according to my identity.

During times of change, we’re forced to reevaluate who we really are. In my case, I experienced a strong sense of being a foreigner. At times, I got wrapped up in self-pity because the people around me didn’t understand. They didn’t know my culture or my community. They didn’t know what it felt like to be transplanted to another home.

In those moments, the Holy Spirit reminded me that being a foreigner in this country is not what defines me. My identity is hidden in Christ Jesus—in His life and death on the cross. Therefore, with my sights set on Christ, I can stop looking at myself or my circumstances and live in the power of Jesus. Because I “have died,” my life is now hidden with Him. He is my life.

Make it Personal

What circumstances do you allow to define you? Are you living in the light of the reality that you have died and it is Christ who lives in you?
