A Remarkable Ending

December 31, 2020 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“Why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” —Luke 1:43

Every day of Elizabeth’s life, God was moving her toward the day when the Messiah would come; that’s the context in which she and her husband lived. As Elizabeth faced
the disappointment of infertility, God was busy preparing the way for the coming of Jesus. When God has a purpose in mind that He wants to fulfill, there is nothing that can stop Him.

As Elizabeth locked eyes with Jesus’ mother, Mary, she knew the ending that mattered most. Her deepest longings would be met. Christ was on His way!

Like Elizabeth, we are waiting for the Messiah. He arrived once already as a baby, but that is not the end of the story. He will come again.

When it comes to our disappointments, Christ has already written the ending. A day is coming when He will return for us. Just as Elizabeth’s longings melted away with the news that Jesus would soon be born, we can hold on to the hope that, because of Jesus, our stories have a remarkable ending.

Make it Personal

Write out a prayer thanking God that His plans can be trusted and that your hope is in the promise of His return.
