No Life without Breath

May 5, 2021 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

There was a sound, and behold, a rattling, and the bones came together. . . . But there was no breath in them. —Ezekiel 37:7–8

In Ezekiel 37, God told the prophet to preach the word of the Lord to a valley full of dry bones. Then, God promised, He would cause them to come to life. The bones came together and were covered with skin. However, there was one small problem.

“There was no breath in them.” The bones were rattling around together. They were making noise, but without breath they were just corpses. There was still no life.

I think this is a picture of what’s going on in a lot of the Christian world today. There’s a lot of coming together. There are big events where we make a lot of noise. There are a lot of mega churches, a lot of teaching, a lot of preaching, a lot of music, a lot of impressive appearance. But there’s very little evidence of true spiritual life or the Holy Spirit. There is no breath of God.

Make it Personal

Ask God to breathe new life into your church and churches everywhere, that they might be powerful examples of the gospel.
