Material for Sacrifice

October 13, 2020 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

Let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God. —Hebrews 13:15

Scripture is the ultimate choirmaster, inspiring the people of God to sing! God’s people aren’t invited to sing because we’re never disappointed but because we have hope beyond any temporary setback.

We’ll always have unfulfilled longings this side of heaven. If we didn’t, we’d be satisfied with what we have here on earth. We wouldn’t continue to long for our heart’s ultimate home.

These longings aren’t in and of themselves sinful. What’s sinful is when we demand they be fulfilled now or we become bitter. The deepest longings of our hearts cannot be filled by any person or thing, and that’s why we must learn to accept unfulfilled longings—to learn to live with them and surrender them to God.

As we surrender our needs to God, they become material for sacrifice—something we can offer up to God in worship. Then as we surrender those longings, we look to Him to meet the deepest needs of our hearts. We trust Him to move in His time and in His way for His eternal purposes and glory.

Make it Personal

Are you willing to surrender your longings as a sacrifice of praise to the Lord? Write out a prayer offering your disappointment up to Him.
