The Love Test

July 1, 2021 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

We love because he first loved us. —1 John 4:19

You’ve probably taken a lot of tests throughout your life—math tests, history tests, even driving tests. But have you ever taken a love test?

When we look at the characteristics of love in 1 Corinthians 13, we can evaluate our “love life” to see how we’re doing in the light of this truth.

To take the test, read this chapter out loud every day for the next thirty days, and let God work it into your heart. Try to commit it to memory. You may even want to read it in the morning and again at night so you can evaluate your day.

As I’ve done this for myself, I’ve needed to be reminded that I will never truly be able to love in this way. I’ll never be as kind as I need to be or as patient and long-suffering as I should be.

So, how do I get that love? I have to continually acknowledge to God that I don’t have it. I have to confess it to Him and then ask Him to fill me with Himself.

Make it Personal

Ask God to use this love test as a magnifying glass to reveal if there are any ways your love life needs to improve.
