It’s Not Fair

December 17, 2021 Betsy Gómez

Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous. —1 Peter 3:18

“It’s not fair!” That’s the phrase my son used to say when things didn’t go as he expected. When someone took our parking space, gave candy to his brother and not to him, or when he observed more serious inequalities, he was quick to point out injustice.

The birth of Jesus explains clearly whether God is “fair” with man. Was it fair God had to come into the world to fix the mess sinners made? Was it fair for the King of glory to put aside His majesty to come to earth? Was it fair that the only One who never sinned should receive the punishment of those who really deserved it?

What was fair was that we be treated according to our sins. However, God hasn’t repaid us according to our wickedness (Psalm 103:10). Rather He has given us life through Christ.

This Christmas we can surrender our lives in adoration and gratitude to the One who could have said, “It’s not fair!” Instead, He chose to take our place.

Make it Personal

Thank God that Christmas isn’t about being “fair” and praise Him for the mercy and grace He pours out on us.
