His Grace Is Greater

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted. —Isaiah 61:1

The hymn “Rescue the Perishing” has a beautiful application to the topic of love.

Down in the human heart,
Crushed by the tempter;
Feelings lie buried that grace can restore.
Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness;
Chords that are broken will vibrate once more.7

Our feelings have been crushed by Satan, by our foolishness, and by the wounds of others. But those feelings that are buried, grace can restore.

Touched by a loving heart. In our selfishness, we want the other person to come back in love. But God wants us to be the one who demonstrates the love of Christ. Wakened
by kindness. There are a lot of damaged emotions in our relationships. We’ve damaged people’s hearts with words and actions that aren’t kind, and we’ve been damaged by their lack of kindness. However, love is kind.

The world says these “broken chords” cannot be repaired. Yet God’s grace is greater than all our sins. His love can heal and restore.
