God’s Greatest Victory

December 31, 2022 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God with angels, authorities, and powers subject to him. —1 Peter 3:21–22

To those who don’t know better, forgiveness may seem like weakness—giving up, letting evil triumph. In fact, at first blush, Calvary itself may have seemed to be just such a defeat. But seen from the vast reaches of eternity, the cross actually spelled Satan’s ultimate defeat and proved to be God’s greatest victory!

The Lamb of God laid down His life on the altar of sacrifice. As the last drops of His life-blood spilled out, He appealed to His Father to forgive those whose sin He bore. He drew— and expelled—His final breath.

And all heaven broke out in a mighty anthem: Forgiven! Pardoned! Paid in full! Mercy granted! Justice vindicated! Redemption accomplished!

Three days later, the Lamb slain for sinners was raised from the dead—and He shall reign forever and ever. And we shall be before His throne— sinners made saints, enemies reconciled to God—to worship and serve Him forever.

Such is the amazing, eternal power of forgiveness.
