He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son. —Colossians 1:13
I imagine that someone has committed the worst of crimes and is imprisoned for the rest of his life. The bail is set so high that not even a millionaire could cover it. There’s absolutely no hope for this person to ever experience freedom.
Yet one day, he’s told, “You’ve been released. Someone has covered the cost of your bail; everything is paid for.” The amazed man yells, “Who was it?” as his heart rejoices over the strange sensation of undeserved freedom.
In another time, sin was our master and we were its faithful slaves. We couldn’t escape from its dominion and rule. Our desires and passions were enslaved, and we could only run away from God. We needed a Redeemer to lift us out of our slavery, paying the price for our freedom.
The price was very high: death (Rom. 6:23). But there was One who gave His life for us, who, despite our wickedness, humbled Himself to the utmost and gave Himself to pay the price for our freedom.
Make it Personal
Thank God for paying the price for your freedom, and ask Him to open your eyes daily to the reality of His sacrifice.
