Get Rid of the Clutter

Seek peace and pursue it. —Psalm 34:14

If you want a practical suggestion for how to cultivate a quiet heart, start with eliminating unnecessary clutter from your life. I can’t tell you what to eliminate, but there must be something that is unnecessary.

Sit down and examine your schedule to find those things that get in the way of having a quiet heart. Maybe it’s social media, a TV show, a podcast, or news. If we always have media blaring in our ears and eyes, then we cannot have a quiet heart.

Your children need to learn this too, by the way. Always being in front of a computer screen, always playing electronic games, does not facilitate the development of a quiet heart.

If you eliminate unnecessary clutter from your life, you’ll be able to stay calm when the pressures, interruptions, and distractions come. You can discipline your soul and say, “I’m not going to let this make me agitated or hot and bothered.” When trouble comes, you will maintain a quiet heart.

Make it Personal

What unnecessary clutter can you get rid of that will better enable you to have a quiet heart?
