A Faith Marker

February 16, 2024 Kimberly Wagner

The LORD of Armies is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold. —Psalm 46:7

Throughout my Christian life, there have been many times when I’ve been guilty of running in fear rather than standing in faith. So, if I’m going to keep my heart pressing into the path that God has marked out for me, I need what I call “faith markers.” These are passages of God’s Word that serve like trail markers in the woods; they help me to stay in the safe territory of faith.

When I’m tempted to wander through a wilderness of fear, deception, despair, and self-centered thinking, faith markers direct me back on track. Psalm 46 is one faith marker that helps to keep my heart ruled by peace.

This psalm reminds me that even if the earth under my feet gives way or the mountains slip into the sea, I have no need to fear when I’m trusting in God as my refuge. Courage comes when my security is centered in God’s sovereignty.
