3 Lessons on Living with Sexual Integrity from Dannah Gresh

“Happy Pride Month!” That’s how Dannah Gresh and her husband Bob were greeted when they entered a store in a bustling metropolis last June. As the bell over the door rang, the greeting was repeated to another customer. “Happy Pride Month,” the person responded.

Oh, realized Dannah. They expected me to say it back. The employee assumed she would automatically echo the expression with the kind of warmth previously used to wish someone a Merry Christmas or a Happy New Year. But could she? And should any follower of Christ? How are Christians to practice biblical sexual integrity in a culture like this?

Dannah Gresh answered those questions in a recent Revive Our Hearts chapel, in which our team at ROH has been walking through Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth and Tim Grissom’s classic study, Seeking Him. As soon as Dannah taught through “Lesson 10: Sexual Purity,” we knew we needed to share that teaching with you here on the blog.

During the message, Dannah shared three important lessons on how and why we must live with sexual integrity in this hostile environment. She spent most of her time in 1 Peter 2, but she also referenced Romans 5:8—

God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

This truth matters—and not just during “Pride Month.” Did you catch what the verse says? It’s clear that Jesus died for you while you were still a sinner. But He didn’t just die for you while you were still a sinner. As Dannah says:

  • “He died for the person who painted the streets of your hometown in rainbow colors.”
  • “He died for the celebrity who is applauded on the cover of a magazine for being nonbinary.”
  • “He died for the granddaughter who is living with her boyfriend.”
  • “He died for the husband who had the affair.”

“Why did He die? Because He loved them,” Dannah says. The question is, “Do you?”

To be able to love them, you must first know—truly, deeply know—that you are loved. Believing this on a heart-level is what makes all the difference in how you respond to your own battles of the flesh and how you pour into others still in the midst of their own battles. Find out why in this powerful installment from the chapel series, “Seeking Him Together.”
