It's Time to Pray, Day 27

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." ~Galatians 5:1

Freedom has a high value in the kingdom of God—not a freedom to do as you please, but, rather, a freedom to please God. That's important for us to understand as we pray for our nation.

In handling Scripture accurately, we must point out that the freedom Paul spoke of to the Galatians was freedom from laws and traditions that kept people bound spiritually. This principle of freedom has been used across the centuries to set people free from other kinds of bondage and slavery. Freedom is a gift of God and is to be treasured.

As you pray for the United States, pray that the spirit of freedom would be rekindled. Paul encouraged the Galatians to "stand firm" against any attempt to take away their freedom. There are certainly many today who fear that our freedom to live lives pleasing to God is being eroded by growing governmental control over many aspects of our lives. Praying for freedom is praying a kingdom value into our nation.

Prayer Points

  • Pray for vigilance over any erosion of freedom.
  • Thank the Lord for the freedom we have in Christ.
  • Pray that we will not again be burdened with the yoke of slavery.

My Prayer

I thank You, Lord, that You have set us free from bondage. I'm so grateful for the freedom we have in Christ. I thank You for the Founders of our nation who built that love and respect for freedom into the core of who we are. Help us, Lord, to be vigilant against the erosion of freedom. Build a love of freedom into our churches and schools and other formative institutions. Give us the courage and boldness to stand firm against those who would take away freedom. May we always be the land of the free.
