Wonder of the Word Kids Audio, Day 3

Day 3: Genesis 6-9, The Flood

Transcript

Intro

Helen: Kids, I’m glad to be with you! I hope you were able to do your Bible study at home with the page that I put on our website for you. If you did, you probably started working on our first memory verse. Can you say it with me? Let’s do it 2 times.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

One more time… Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

On our first day together, we learned that everything God made was very good. Perfect, actually. But it didn’t last long did it? Adam and Eve disobeyed God and everything changed. For the first time they were afraid, afraid of God. For the first time they were ashamed. For the first time, they blamed each other. How sad! But God gave them a hint that someday Satan would be defeated.

They had to leave the garden and work hard. They found out what death was like when their son Cain, killed his brother.

Adam and Eve had lots of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. But eventually, they grew old and died. Their children grew up and had lots of children, and so on. It wasn’t long before there were lots and lots of people on the earth. Thousands and thousands of them. Maybe even millions.

And do you know what? God’s “very good” creation wasn’t perfect anymore. Sin affected everything! It was awful, no one did what was right and good.

It says in the Bible that the people were so wicked, every single thought they had was evil all the time. They didn’t think any good or kind thoughts. They were violent – hurting and killing each other, destroying what God had created.

It was so bad that God could not let it continue. It broke his heart, he was so sad. He needed to put an end to every creature and person. But…… there was one person who loved him. One person who obeyed and did what was right. And his name was Noah.

Here’s what God said to him, “I have decided to put an end to every creature, for the earth is filled with wickedness, therefore, I am going to destroy them along with the earth. Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in it and cover it with pitch. Understand that I am bringing a flood, and everything on the earth will perish.

God made a covenant, a promise to Noah that his family would be saved. So let’s take a few minutes to imagine what that might have been like. Let’s listen!

Audio Drama 1

Hammer sounds, wood creaking

Noah: Well, it’s finished. I followed all the instructions God gave me, and look at it, sons, it’s. . .it’s ready. (almost teary)

Ham: Dad, it’s beautiful. And the size of it.. 450 feet long, 75 feet wide… It’s massive!

Shem: And it will keep our family safe; that’s the important part! With all pitch we covered it with, both inside and out, it’s completely waterproof. I can honestly say I’m glad that part is done! What a sticky mess!

Japheth: You can say that again, Shem! The design really is perfect, Dad. Just…Look at it! It’s so high! 45 feet! with three different floors, and rooms on rooms. Enough for all the animals and food supplies!

Noah: Thank you, son. And it’s not surprising that it’s perfect. Our perfect God told us how to build it. (next lines say with sadness and grief) And because he is holy and righteous, he can’t let the evil of our world continue. When he first crafted the world, everything was perfect, but now… with so much evil in man’s heart… It’s so very broken. It makes him sad, what people are doing. They hurt and kill each other, they lie, they steal, they don’t listen or obey God at all. And yet, He’s given them time to repent, to turn away from sin and obey Him. All these many, many years we’ve worked on this ark, and told them what’s coming, they’ve refused to listen. (sigh)

My boys, last night, God spoke to me. He said 7 days from now, the rain will start.

(Sighs, oh my’s from sons)

Ham: So we’ve got work to do. It’s time to load all the food for the animals.

Shem: And for us! ….Dad? How are we going to find all the pairs of animals we’re supposed to take?

Noah: I wish I knew, son. All I know is that God told me they would come…. and I believe Him.

Footsteps running toward them

Noah’s wife: Noah…..Noah! (breathing hard) Come…… look! I was washing our clothes and…. and you won’t believe what I saw! Animals are coming across the field!

Japheth: Are you sure, mom?

Noah’s wife: Yes, I saw elephants…a pair of them! Can you believe it? And tigers…

Japheth: It’s happening, it’s really happening! Let’s go see!

Running sounds, ad lib from sons, animal sounds begin, running stops

Shem: Would you look at that… amazing!

Bird sounds add in

Ham: And here come the birds! This …is…incredible! They’re going straight to the ark! I’m running home to get my wife! Running sounds that begin to fade. She’ll want to see this! (From a distance)

Noah: We’d better get back and get them loaded! (hurried walking sounds) Ah…..look! Now they’re coming from all directions! Come on!....We need to move!

Running sounds die out

Musical interlude

Quiet, peaceful animal sounds as Noah and family are standing outside the ark.

Noah: Good, you're all here. Today is the 7th day. The rain is going to start. I’m sure God’s heart is breaking with sadness over all He has made. Everyone has rejected him except for us. But He has shown us grace…. Family, it’s time. Let’s go.

Feet walking up ramp, animal sounds get louder, feet stop, creaking sound and bang as door closes

Shem: Dad, who shut the door? We didn’t.

Noah: God did, Shem. We are safe.

Raindrops start, then increase, fountains of the deep burst, faint sounds of people yelling, then gets quiet

Teaching 2

It’s hard to imagine what that would have felt like, isn’t it? The Bible says that not only did it rain for 40 days and nights, but fountains of the deep came shooting out of the ground. There is a lot of water underneath the ground, and God caused it to come out with such force it was like huge fountains. The water from below and the water from the clouds above covered everything, and by the end of the 40 days, even the mountain tops were under water. All the land animals, the birds and all the people died. But those in the ark were safe. Because they believed God and obeyed him, he kept them safe.

Even though the rains stopped after 40 days, it took a looong time for the water to dry up. If we add up the days the Bible tells us about, they were in the ark for 370 days. That’s more than a whole year! Would you like to be inside a big boat with lots and lots of animals to take care of for a year? That’s a long time, isn’t it?

Finally, God spoke to Noah. He said, “Come out of the ark, you, and your family! And bring out all the animals with you.”

Wouldn’t those have been such good words to hear? Can you imagine their joy? Why don’t we imagine it together?

Audio Drama 2

Music intro. Wood creaking, people sounding tired and shuffling in the background.

Noah: Family, God spoke to me. He said we can go out!

Family: Cheers, ad lib

Shem: Finally! Come on! Let’s get the door open.

Banging, creaking, feet scurrying, then stopping,

Noah’s wife: Aah!... it’s over…everything is new and fresh! (while she says this, movement starts again)

Ham: It’s so good to stand on solid land again!

Japheth: Feel the breeze! The sun is beautiful! Look, there are blueberries right here! Ah! This ..Is…Amazing!

Noah: Laughs. Yes, it is! Aren’t we forgetting something…

Family: What? What did we forget?

Noah: We need to let the animals out! This is going to be fun!

Boys and wives: We’ll help.(ad lib)

Japheth: My wife and I will get the ones on the main floor.

Ham: We’ll get the second floor!

Shem: We’ll get the birds!

Noah: Hmmm….dear one, I think we can just stand here and watch!

Noah’s wife: That’s a great idea.

SFX: Lots of yelling, bonking around, and animal noises in the background getting closer.

Noah: Here they come! (laughing) Look at those goats! I don’t think I’ve ever seen them jump that high! Oooh, and now they’re discovering plants to nibble.

Noah’s wife: The sheep, Noah! They’re running everywhere! They’re not quite sure what to do with themselves! It’s a good thing I married an excellent shepherd!

Shem: Dad! Mom! Look at the horses run! You can almost feel their joy! And here come the chickens - they haven’t forgotten how to peck and find food on the ground.

Noah’s wife: I don’t think I’ll miss that rooster crowing so loud every morning!

Ham: Augh! What’s that? (frog sound) Oh, the frogs are out! One just jumped on my foot!

Lion roar

Japheth: The mighty lions! There they go! We might not see them again. But, oh, look at the birds! They’re free to fly! Aw, I’m really going to miss hearing their songs every morning in the ark, though. That was one of my favorite things.

Noah: Family, we need to stop and give thanks to God. He rescued us! I am going to build an altar and give burnt offerings to Him.

Sons: We’ll gather wood for the fire.

Stones being piled, wood put on, fire started.

Japheth: Here are a few more stones for the altar, Dad.

Shem: Oh, I found some good dry wood. This is perfect for the fire.

Noah: Now for the animals for the offering. (lamb bleats)

Fire crackling.

Noah: Now, gather around. Father God, How can we thank you enough for what you have done for us. You chose us and rescued us. Thank you for your love and care. We want to honor you and obey you. You are good, you are perfect and we love you.

God: Noah, Shem, Ham and Japheth, I will bless your family! Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth with your children and grandchildren. I am making a covenant, a promise with you and your descendants and with every living creature with you. There will never again be a flood to destroy the earth. This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and all future generations: I have placed my bow in the clouds and it will be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I form clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that water will never again become a flood to destroy all living creatures on earth.

Ad lib oohs and ahs

Noah: Look at that! The rainbow is absolutely beautiful!

Noah’s wife: The colors…..what an amazing God we have! And his promise – never another flood like this one!

Japheth: Red is at the top, then orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.

Shem: And to think we’ll get to see this again! Didn’t he say that whenever he puts it in the clouds, he’ll remember his promise? I’m going to teach the children who will be born in my family about all that’s happened to us, how he showed his great love and protection, how he is so good, and how he hates how evil and sin ruin us. And whenever he puts his rainbow in the sky, we need to tell our children about the promise he made to us today.

Noah: You are right, Shem. We must not forget to pass down everything we have learned.

CLOSING

Narrator: I’m glad God gave us our Bible so we can learn about what happened long ago. Did you know that just like Noah and his family needed to be rescued, we need to be rescued, too? The Bible says that all of us sin- we do things and think things that are not good and right. The punishment for sin is death and being separated from God forever. But God loves us, doesn’t he. He wants us to be with him. John 3:16 says “God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but have eternal life.” Just like Noah believed in God and obeyed him, you and I can do the same thing. We can believe that Jesus came and took the punishment we deserved. He died in our place so that we can be forgiven and be with God forever. Have you asked him to forgive you? Have you told him you believe he died for you? If you haven’t, talk to your mom or dad about that today.

Pray. Thank you God that you took such good care of Noah and his family. And thank you that you made a way for us to be with you someday. Thank you for sending Jesus to take the punishment we deserve. Help us to love and worship you more. Amen.
