Wonder of the Word Highlights, Day 2

Temptation Isn’t New

Transcript

Blair Linne: This is Wonder of the Word Highlights with Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth. I’m Blair Linne.

In Genesis 1 and 2, we see the magnificence of God’s creation. God creates Adam and Eve. He places them in a beautiful garden. And He only gives them one restriction—don’t eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They have an amazing life, and get to spend time with God Himself.

But in Genesis 3, the plot turns tragic. Verse 1 says, “Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the wild animals that the Lord God had made.”

Nancy: What’s this all about? Where did this come from? Already, you can tell that there's something changing, something marring the beautiful picture that God has made here.

Blair: Nancy’s teaching through the whole Bible. And she reveals the snake’s true identity.

Nancy: Well, the New Testament identifies this snake clearly as Satan, the one who deceives the whole world.

Blair: The whole world includes you and me.

When Satan tempts us, he tries the same ploys he used on Eve. Satan asked her, “Did God really say, ‘You can’t eat from any tree in the garden’?”

Nancy: He casts doubt on the Word of God. He says what God said is not true. And he casts doubt on God’s character. He says God is not really good or He wouldn’t have put this restriction on you.

Blair: Have you been tempted to think God isn’t really good to you? Or that you don’t need to obey Him?

Well, remember what happened to Eve when she fell for Satan’s lie.

Nancy: He deceived her. He lied to her. And he still lies to us. He promises things he can't possibly give us. He lures us away from the beauty and the goodness that God has created and He intends for us. He wrecks hearts and homes and marriages and relationships. He will mar your past, corrupt your present, and steal future joys that God wanted to bless you with.

Blair: If you’ve been tempted by lies, remember, God is good. He gave His own son to die in our place and crush the head of the serpent. Would you open the Bible today and let the Word of God drown out the lies designed to destroy you?
