Read through the Bible, Day 311

Good morning. Jesus prays for His disciples—and for us—then walks willingly to the cross. Pilate finds no fault in Him, soldiers crown Him with thorns, and on the cross He declares, “It is finished.” The King is crucified, yet heaven rules.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

John 17–19

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

Jesus prayed specifically for you in John 17:20—that you would be kept, sanctified, and united with Him and the Father. Rest in that prayer today, and thank Him for His intercession.

Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer was delivered with the cross so near He could feel it. Yet it is marked not by apprehension about His own circumstances but by deep love and concern for His followers. —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
