Good morning. After Jesus commissions the twelve disciples and emphasizes the cost of discipleship, He receives word that John the Baptist has heard from prison about His ministry. Jesus is the long-awaited Messiah—fulfilling God’s promises through His works—and He offers rest and peace to all who come to Him.
Before you begin
Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Review
Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.
Reflect
What weights or habits of sin might you be holding onto that keep you from fully experiencing the rest Jesus provides?
God saves us for a purpose. Why would He deliver us from what our self-centered ways have done to us, only to turn us loose to keep following our own paths? We obviously were being destroyed by the yoke of sin and Satan, and God in His grace removed it. The place where we find “rest for [our] souls” is under the yoke of Christ. —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1
