Read through the Bible, Day 274

Good morning. In these chapters, we see Jesus’ authority over sickness and the spiritual realm as He fulfills Isaiah’s prophecy: “He himself took our weaknesses and carried our diseases” (Matt. 8:17). Notice Jesus’ compassion—not only for those suffering physically but also for those in desperate need of a Savior.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

Matthew 8–9

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

How can you cultivate a deeper trust in Jesus’ authority, knowing He has power over both the visible and invisible challenges in your life?

Once a person has been delivered from a dire circumstance, the last place they willingly want to place themselves is back under its power. The closer we come to knowing what salvation really means, the further away we’ll stay from the sin that made us need saving in the first place. —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
