Today we begin the book of Lamentations. The first two chapters mourn Jerusalem’s destruction, portraying the city’s suffering as the result of sin and God’s just judgment, while also revealing His sovereign purposes even amid devastation.
Before you begin
Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Review
Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.
Reflect
How do these chapters shape your understanding of God’s holiness and justice? In what ways might that awareness influence how you live faithfully before Him?
God wants to reveal Himself to you; He wants to fill your heart with Himself. He wants to set you free from every unholy passion; He wants you to drink deeply of the joys found in His presence. He wants your service for Him to be the overflow of genuine love and an authentic life; He wants you to be a reflector of His glory in our dark world. —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1
