Read through the Bible, Day 193

Solomon reminds us that the results of our labor—including our wealth, our possessions, and even the ability to enjoy them—are all gifts from God. He encourages us to find contentment in what He provides rather than chasing the endless pursuit of wealth.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

Ecclesiastes 5–8

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

In what ways do you find yourself chasing wealth or success for its own sake rather than receiving it as a blessing to enjoy and to share?

Sometimes the consequences of our sin are not seen until months or years down the road; sometimes they don’t show up until the next generation; and some consequences will be delayed until we stand before God at the judgment seat. —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
