Read through the Bible, Day 192

As Ecclesiastes begins, Solomon reflects on the fleeting nature of human pursuits and the emptiness of pleasure, possessions, and work. Yet woven through his reflections are reminders of the mystery of time, the gift of companionship, and the importance of receiving and enjoying the simple blessings God provides.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

Ecclesiastes 1–4

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

Solomon describes many human pursuits as “vanity” or meaningless. What are some things in your life that would feel fleeting or unfulfilling if you focused on them apart from the Lord?

O Lord, how grateful I am for the oneness and fellowship I can experience with You and with others because of what Jesus has done for us. May my life cause others to long to be in relationship with You and Your people. —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
