Today’s psalm selections range from praise and thanksgiving to trouble and distress—just like our daily lives. Through it all, the psalmists keep their eyes fixed on the Lord’s faithfulness. Will you do the same today?
Before you begin
Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.
Read
Review
Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.
Reflect
Psalm 142 finishes, “Free me from prison so that I can praise your name. The righteous will gather around me because you deal generously with me.” When you ask the Lord to deliver you from a trial, is your motivation to glorify Him? Make David’s prayer your own today? “Free me from ______ so that I can praise your name.”
The psalmist asked God to post a sentinel at his own mouth knowing that the greatest danger he faced was not what others might do to him, but rather, what he might say that would harm others. —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1
Respond
Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
