Read through the Bible, Day 167

Sin. Judgment. Deliverance. Betrayal. Despair. Today’s psalms span the full range of human experience. Yet through it all runs a common thread: God’s protection and mercy remain constant—and they are always worthy of praise.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

Psalms 51–56

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

Do you struggle with anxiety? Commit Psalm 56:3–4 to memory, and ask the Lord to bring these words to mind the next time fear threatens your peace.

In the midst of intense, frightening hardship, David submitted himself to the Lord’s protection. He didn’t deny the reality of what was happening to him, but he found reason to be grateful even for his sorrows. —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
