Read through the Bible, Day 164

Today’s reading reminds us that life is but a vapor (Psalm 39:5). What a blessing it is to remember that any sufferings you face today are only a small portion of the glorious eternity with Christ to come.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

Psalms 35–39

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

Psalm 38 is titled “Prayer for a Suffering Sinner.” Has your sin caused you to suffer recently? Bring it before the One who will not abandon you in your time of trouble, confessing honestly and trusting in His mercy and forgiveness.

God isn’t surprised by your situation, and He offers hope and an invitation to take refuge in Him. —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
