After a dark period of tyranny under Athaliah, God preserved His faithful line through Joash—hidden as a child and later crowned king. His story is a powerful reminder that God’s purposes cannot be thwarted by human schemes. Yet Joash’s life also shows us that even those who begin well can falter when they stop seeking the Lord’s guidance.
Before you begin
Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.
Reflect
How does Joash’s story prompt you to examine where you might be relying on human wisdom rather than God’s leading? What would it look like to follow the Lord wholeheartedly in your daily choices?
"O Lord, may I do what is right in Your sight, with all my heart, all the way to the finish line. Help me to listen to You and to wise counselors You send into my life. May I worship only You and never turn from following You. Amen." —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1
