In today’s reading, Rehoboam began well by listening to God’s Word and strengthening Judah. But when he and the people turned away, the Lord allowed Egypt to humble them. Even then, God showed mercy when they repented and acknowledged His righteousness.

Where might God be inviting you to lay down pride or self-reliance and bow before Him in humility? What daily habits can help you cultivate a heart that stays humble before Him?
"O Lord, in the midst of leading and serving others, may I not forsake Your Word or be unfaithful to You. And when You discipline me and send faithful servants to show me my sin, may I not respond defensively, but be quick to acknowledge that You are right. Thank You for the mercy You extend when we humble ourselves before You. Amen." —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1
