Two Responses to Jesus

Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: There’s a story found in Luke 7 that never fails to speak to me.

Jesus was eating dinner with Simon, a religious leader, when someone known as a “sinful woman” crashed the party, poured expensive perfume on Jesus’ feet, and washed them with her tears.

Simon said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known what sort of woman this is who is touching him—she’s a sinner.” But Jesus knew exactly what sort of woman this was—one who realized how amazing it was to be forgiven.

Jesus also knew what kind of man the religious leader was—one who refused to acknowledge his sin, one who didn’t think he needed to be forgiven.

So many times I come to Jesus like Simon, cold and indifferent to my sin. I want to be more like that woman who showed spontaneous, extravagant love from a heart of brokenness.
