Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: One of the first songs of Christmas, Zechariah’s song, ends with a sunrise. Christ’s appearing was drawing near.

Zechariah: “The sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death.”

Nancy: When Zechariah looked ahead to the birth of the Messiah, he first saw the darkness. Sunrise would be unnecessary if the world was continually light. But the darkness was breaking, almost imperceptibly. Jesus’ coming was quiet and humble, it took place in relative obscurity. Even now, thousands of years later, most people don’t realize that the dawn has come. They're unaware that Christ has come to bring them into the light.

So Father, thank You for bringing the sunrise, and help us today to walk in the light of Your Son. In Jesus’ name, amen.
