Modeling Forgiveness

Woman: Whatever you do, don’t marry someone like your dad!

Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Do you want your children to learn to forgive others? Then it’s important to model forgiveness yourself.

Nancy: This can be especially important for women who've been through the pain of divorce. 

Woman: So . . . I’ll bet he really spoiled you this weekend.

Nancy: It’s so easy to be angry and bitter, especially if children have been hurt in the proceedings. But living with a bitter mom can be more damaging to children than the divorce itself.

No matter what circumstance you’re in, it’s important to model forgiveness to your kids. Choose to forgive those who have wronged you. Clear the record of their wrongdoing. Then work at blessing and praying for your offender. There’s no more powerful way to teach your children about God’s grace and forgiveness.
