False Advertising
(TV advertisements)
“Melt ten pounds in ten minutes!”
“Instant health at the flip of a switch!”
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Sounds like some deceptive advertising to me.
“Become a world-class violinist instantaneously!”
Nancy: Most deception isn’t quite so easy to detect.
“Did God really say that you must not eat of any tree in the garden?”
Nancy: The devil was the first deceptive advertiser. He knew Eve would reject an all-out assault on God, but a combination of half-truths and falsehoods disguised as truth persuaded her to disobey. He uses the same technique on us today.
Jesus described the devil, saying: “When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). As you listen to various messages today, would you ask yourself: What is the real message here? Is it true? Am I being deceived by a way of thinking that’s contrary to the truth?
With Seeking Him, I'm Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
