Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Jesus once told His grief-stricken friend Martha, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.”

That had to be comforting to Martha, because her brother, Lazarus, had died just a few days earlier. But He followed up that statement with a searching question: “Do you believe this?”

I think that’s a question we all need to wrestle with. Do we believe this? Can we trust God even in those most painful moments, when we’re facing death — whether our own or that of someone we love?

Facing death is hard. The pain is unavoidable, but so is the peace of knowing that Jesus is the resurrection and the life. And He is holding both you, and the one who’s gone ahead of you, in His loving arms.
