Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Where do you turn when life hurts?

Woman 1: I’m just going to go home and drown my sorrows in ice cream.

Woman 2: When I see all the crazy people on social media, it really makes me feel like my problems aren’t that bad.

Man: I’ll be okay after I’ve had a drink.

Nancy: When we’re hurting, we’re quick to turn to other people or things to give us comfort, relief, or escape.

Woman 1: I hit the bottom of the carton already?

Nancy: James 5 tells us where to turn for true comfort. It says, “Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray.”

No matter what we’re feeling or going through, our first response should be to turn to the Lord. Everything else will prove to be inadequate.

Are you afflicted today? Instead of covering the pain with quick fixes, why not pray and take comfort in God’s presence, His plan, and His faithfulness?
