“I would hurry to my shelter from the raging wind and the storm.” —Psalm 55:8
We often read our Bibles and say our prayers without truly cultivating a relationship with Christ. We’re busy with lots of spiritual activities, yet we’ve lost perspective of who we’re serving—and why.
I’ve observed that one of the most telling indicators is found in our response to pressure. Everywhere I go, I meet people who are stressed and strained—a condition I often relate to. I know of only one place where this stressed-out, reactionary self can be changed—through a daily choice to sit at Jesus’ feet, listen to His Word, receive His love, and invite His transformation.
When we get into His presence, the whole world looks different. When we draw close to His heart, we find mercy where we deserve judgment, forgiveness for our selfish ways, grace for our inadequacies, peace for our troubled hearts, and perspective for our distorted views.
In that quiet place, the storm raging around us may not immediately subside. But in Him, we find an eye in the storm. The storm within us is made calm.
