When I am filled with cares, your comfort brings me joy. —Psalm 94:19
When my friend Nancy Epperson had small children, she used a special marker to write a weekly Bible verse on her kitchen countertops so they could memorize it. At week’s end, she cleaned the counter to make room for a new verse.
One day she was quoting a verse when her eighteen-month-old son toddled in behind her. Nancy began saying, “This is the day which the Lord hath made” and her son responded, “we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24 kjv).
What a need there is to counsel our hearts with the truths of God’s Word, to “repeat them” to our children (Deut. 6:7), and to “write them” into our lives (Heb. 8:10). We and coming generations face challenges that seem to leave no option than worry and panic. But His Word is our sanity. It tethers us to truth, protecting our minds and reorienting our perspectives.
Store up God’s Word in your heart. Memorize it; meditate on it. And be continually renewed as God uses it to transform you into the likeness of Christ.
