’Tis So Sweet

May 17, 2026 Katie Laitkep

Though you have not seen him, you love him; though not seeing him now, you believe in him, and you rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy. —1 Peter 1:8

In the men’s mentorship program at my church, the participants are asked to write what they hope their obituaries will say. Many include “servant of Christ.” “Loving father and friend.” “Faithful to the end.” It’s made me think about what I hope mine will include. As I’ve thought about it, 1 Peter 1:8 came to mind. Though she has not seen Him, she loves Him.

Those words could be said of many older women in my church—as much as they’ve loved family and friends, their love for the Lord has been the defining melody of their lives. They live out these lines:

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!

May our lives be marked by a love that endures because it’s anchored in something unshakable. This is what our walk with Jesus needs—and it begins by trusting Him today.

Make it Personal

Ask the Lord to help your love for Him grow deeper each day so that it shapes your life and inspires those around you.
