The Word and the Spirit

June 21, 2025 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“The Spirit is the one who gives life. The flesh doesn’t help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.” —John 6:63

A single passage of God’s Word can bring more power, light, and wisdom than a lifetime of curated insights from the world’s brightest minds. When a believer hears the Word of God, whether pulled up from their own memory or something timely shared by a caring saint, the Spirit of God quickly “takes it home” into the heart of the hearer.

Nothing calms or counsels us better than the Word of God. No thoughts, speculations, or philosophies rival its ability to speak to the point of our greatest need. The Scriptures stand out and stand alone where the soul is concerned. The Word can galvanize our faith, securing it in the bedrock of what God has told us even when everything around us is telling us something else.

For this purpose we read, study, meditate, and consume the teachings of Scripture. There we receive light and life, hope and wisdom, truth and clarity.
