The Precious Word

June 12, 2025 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

The precepts of the LORD are right, making the heart glad; the command of the LORD is radiant, making the eyes light up. —Psalm 19:8

A recent count of Bibles in my personal library revealed more than thirty copies— every size, every shape, in at least eight different translations. That doesn’t include a host of commentaries, concordances, reference books, devotional books, and hymnals.

Proverbs tells us that “a person who is full tramples on a honeycomb, but to a hungry person, any bitter thing is sweet” (27:7). To hungry souls in parts of the world that have never been allowed to own a Bible, God’s Word is exceedingly precious. But to those who can listen to a podcast and hear the Word preached every day, who can purchase the Bible of our choice, and whose shelves are bursting with Bibles, some of them unused, we may find ourselves in danger of adopting a casual attitude toward His Word.

We have a Bible that is of infinite value. Therefore, it is something that we should treasure and cherish.
