The Power of Availability

May 31, 2026 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. —2 Timothy 2:2

I can’t emphasize enough that mentoring doesn’t require advanced degrees or unusual skills. Often it looks quite simple—lingering after church, over coffee, on the phone. It happens in casual but meaningful conversations that start with showing interest and proceeded by listening, caring. With even the tiniest bit of intention, relationships grow. Teaching happens. And all it takes is being available.

One woman shared, “I am twenty-five and have only been a Christian for two and a half years. My mentor, Carole, is always seeking the Lord. She has taught me so much, been patient, caring, and loving. I was so lost. No one ever taught me about Jesus or took time to show me God’s love. I will be thankful for her as long as I live. Hopefully I can be a Carole to someone someday.

And that’s the goal of mentoring relationships. To teach others about God’s Word and ways so they can pass it on to others.

Make it Personal

Who has been a “Carole” in your life? How can you be that same sort of encouragement and example to others?
