Precious Pages

Your statutes are the theme of my song during my earthly life. —Psalm 119:54

Margaret Nikol was exiled to the United States from Bulgaria in her mid-thirties, arriving with only her violin and a single page from the Bible.

When the Communists seized power in her country years earlier, they confiscated hymnals and Scriptures. When the authorities burst into the home of one woman, she sat on her Bible to conceal it. After they left, she tore out one page after another to share with other believers.

One of those pages went to Margaret who was twelve at the time. She read it over and over again.

Imagine her emotions, then, when she found herself in a Christian bookstore in America, walking past shelves of Bibles. For twenty-five years she had prayed, “Lord, I so want to have Your Word!” Now, here she stood, weeping with joy over holding in her hands an entire Bible.

Margaret’s story makes me want to pick up my Bible and thank God for this precious Book. Even more, it makes me want to read it and cherish it as the treasure it truly is.
