You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. —Isaiah 26:3 ESV
The fruit of a devotional life will be manifested in an ordered, peaceful life. When Revive Our Hearts asked women about the benefits and blessings they’d experienced because of their devotional life, by far the most frequent response was “peace.”
Some time ago I received a call from the leader of a large Christian organization—an older man whose Christian walk I greatly respect. As he’s gotten older, he’s placed a higher priority on his personal devotional life—and experienced the most fruitful and peaceful years of his life. He said, “There has been the sense of God orchestrating my days and of the oil of the Spirit in the machinery of my life since I began to spend unhurried time with the Lord.”
Time spent alone with Jesus each day will order our hearts and grant a sense of direction, enabling us to live purposeful, useful lives, directed by the power of the Holy Spirit rather than being driven by the expectations and demands of others.
