Light in the Darkness

The revelation of your words brings light. —Psalm 119:130

Kathy Ferguson was unexpectedly widowed in her mid-forties. The loss, of course, was more raw than words can describe, not to mention the loss of direction that soon began settling in.

One day, the Spirit brought to her mind this verse: “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt. 6:10). It was as though God was telling her, “Rick is doing my will in heaven; you’re going to do my will on earth.”

God’s will for her, for this time, wouldn’t look the same as it had when she and her husband had married young, when they had served together as pastor and wife. But God still had a plan. His will “on earth” was still hers to seek, find, explore, and experience.

Such is the power of God’s Word—to minister grace at our point of greatest need, to strengthen us with truth, and to direct and sustain our hearts through life’s most difficult seasons. When we hear His Word, we hear His voice. And we’re given the light we need to face another day.
