Daily Reflections

In the Morning

October 21, 2025 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, [Jesus] got up, went out, and made his way to a deserted place; and there he was praying. —Mark 1:35

Whenever the subject of daily devotions comes up, “in the morning” seems to be the point that evokes the most frustration, and even resistance. I have often been tempted to minimize or skip over this point. But the more I study the Word, the more convinced I am of the importance of starting the day with Him.

God sent manna for His people in the morning. The day’s supply of nourishment was to be gathered in the morning, while it was fresh. Every morning God has a fresh store of mercies available for His people. When we don’t turn aside in the morning to gather what He’s provided for that day, we’re saying, in essence, I can make it through this day on my own. My strength, my wisdom, my resources are sufficient for the demands of this day.

Not only do we forfeit the grace of God, but our self-sufficiency and pride force Him to resist us throughout the day.
