How Early?

October 27, 2025 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice. —Psalm 5:3

You may be wondering how early in the morning you need to meet with God. I don’t know what time early is for you. Since my office is in my home, early for me is before the phone begins to ring. If I haven’t met with God by that time, it becomes almost impossible for me to find a quiet time, place, or heart for the rest of the day.

That doesn’t mean that to be spiritual you must love mornings and bound out of bed before the sun comes up. Neither am I suggesting a legalistic, ironclad approach that says if you’re not on your knees by 5 a.m., you’re not spiritual.

Don’t forget that the purpose is to know God and to have a relationship with Him. But the bottom line is that if you and I want to be like Jesus, if we want to really know God, we have got to be willing to pay the price to get out of bed in the morning to seek His face.

Make it Personal

Ask the Lord what practical steps you could take to overcome obstacles that get in the way of meeting with Him each morning.
