Ants and Anchors

March 12, 2026 Yamell Jaramillo

Go to the ant, you slacker! Observe its ways and become wise . . . it prepares its provisions in summer; it gathers its food during harvest. —Proverbs 6:6–8

In the past few years, I’ve moved several times, which has been stressful and exhausting. But through each move, God taught me something new.

In one house, I noticed ants showing up repeatedly, even though everything was spotless. My neighbor explained the ants were gathering food due to the rainy season. It made me ask if I was preparing like that— seeking nourishment from God’s Word like those tiny creatures seek food.

There was a deeper lesson too. My husband noticed part of the patio sinking. Upon closer inspection, he discovered a foundation issue. The problem wasn’t visible on the surface— but left unaddressed, it could compromise the structure.

That moment taught me a vital truth: a building can look strong on the outside but be unstable underneath. The same is true for our spiritual lives. We might appear solid, but if our foundation isn’t firm, we risk collapsing. That’s why we need to be anchored in Christ and His Word.

What habits could you cultivate to prepare spiritually, just as the ant prepares physically?
