A Refuge for Your Soul

February 29, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

The LORD of Armies is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold. —Psalm 46:11

At the end of Psalm 46, we find a refrain— one that’s repeated twice. It’s a response to the wonderful promises of God as our refuge and strength that we’ve been given earlier in the psalm. Therefore those who have cried out to the Lord for help, who have experienced His deliverance by faith, triumphantly and joyfully sing out, “The LORD of Armies is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.”

There may be a gazillion hosts against you. Your own personal world or the whole world overall may be in a state of upheaval, but we don’t have to fear because the sovereign Lord of hosts is on our side. And as Romans 8:31 says, “If God is for us, who is against us?”

God is with us; He is with you. He has promised to never leave you or forsake you (Deut. 31:6). You may flee to Him and find in Him a refuge, a strong and mighty fortress for your soul—now and for all eternity.
