Read through the Bible, Day 99

Now in the final moments of his life, David gives instructions to Solomon, reminding him that he has a solemn responsibility to walk with God in faithfulness and obedience. As Solomon is crowned, the promise given to David is fulfilled, and it points ahead to the ultimate fulfillment of the eternal reign of King Jesus.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

1 Kings 1–2

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

Solomon’s kingship came with a solemn responsibility. How does this challenge you to see your responsibilities as entrusted to you by God?

"When we speak of a horse being “broken,” we mean the horse’s will has been broken—it is now compliant and submissive to the wishes of its rider. In the same sense, true brokenness is the breaking of my self-will, so that the life and spirit of the Lord Jesus may be released through me." —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
