Read through the Bible, Day 96

This distressing chapter of David’s life concludes as his son Absalom’s rebellion ends in tragedy. As David mourns the death of his son, the kingdom is restored, and we’re reminded that God’s sovereignty weaves even our deepest sorrows into His redemptive plan.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

2 Samuel 18–20

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

How do you bring your grief and sorrow before God while still trusting His sovereignty?

"O Lord, in a world where force, anger, and heated words often prevail, may my words, actions, and influence reflect the wisdom that comes from You and bring forth the fruit of peace and justice. Amen." —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
