After delays, opposition, and years of preparation, God’s promise is fulfilled, and David finally becomes king. This is God’s man, placed in this position by God to fulfill His purposes and serve His kingdom.
Before you begin
Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.
Read
Review
Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.
Reflect
David recognized that his position, influence, and work belonged to God’s kingdom, not his own. How does this impact the way you serve others or steward the roles God has given you?
"Watching for the right things, looking in the right direction, will give us courage and comfort in the swirl of whatever may be happening around us. It is key to our continuing to serve the Lord when times are stormy, confusing, depraved, and godless." —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1
Respond
Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
