Read through the Bible, Day 82

In today’s passage, Saul’s impatience leads him to offer an unlawful sacrifice, and Samuel declares that his kingdom will not last. Meanwhile, Jonathan brings victory over the Philistines, contrasting Saul’s poor judgment and growing instability as a leader.

Before you begin

Ask the Lord to give you a fresh sense of wonder as you read His Word. Pray for understanding and for an open, humble, obedient heart to receive what He wants to say to you.

Read

1 Samuel 13–14

Review

Write a sentence or two about what you've just read. This could be a summary of the passage or an observation or highlight that stood out to you.

Reflect

"In chapter 13, Saul offers a sacrifice in a way that goes against the commands God had given His people for proper worship. Why is it important to worship the Lord in the way He has instructed? "

"Be careful what you say when you murmur—God may take you up on it." —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth1

Respond

Write a short prayer, based on today’s reading. This could include praise, gratitude, personal confession, agreement with the truth, or a request for yourself or someone else.
